Tutorial: Sharpening

Sharpening is used to bring out the edges and detail in an image, causing it to look more defined to the viewer. Whilst it can improve a technically good photo, what it cannot do is rescue an image that is out of focus in the first place. Often resizing an image will soften it, so if you resize an image, for example, to post on a web site, it usually pays to resharpen the image slightly after the resize.

There are several different methods of sharpening. Here we will look at some of the simpler ones.
